Snow, skiing, beer and falls

Since New Year the snowy weather has been so bad that it has been impossible to get out on our bikes.  I used a Wiggle voucher that I was given for Christmas and put it towards a static trainer and Jane and I have been “burning the miles” in front of the TV of an evening.  Not quite the same as going out but it  does help maintain fitness.

The last week we have been off skiing in Austria during which time I reached my 60th birthday. Fortunately we came back without any injuries.  However, today we took advantage of the “warmer” weather to go out on a ride and I fell over at a junction when my pedal SPD clips didn’t disengage.  It could have been very nasty but I survived with a few bruises and battered pride. Having just read Mark Beaumont's book about cycling the world, I knew that he would have carried on – so did I!

Jane said not to mention that we were on our way back from the brewery where we had just ordered beer for my party on Saturday.  (didn't partake – promise!)
